Academic rewards and honorary tasks:A 500 000 SEK award from "Hildur Nordins Minnesfond" in 2002. This is the original statement from the trust: "You have been nominated and selected as a result of your important contributions to Swedish and international mycology. These contributions show your outstanding ability to identify and resolve problems of great importance both to science and to society. The selection was also based on your unusual talent to combine many research fields, e.g. taxonomy, ecology, physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology, your pedagogic gifts, technical solutions and your explicit aim to promote biodiversity and rural economy by exploring special forest products". Royal support for my research (Stipendium från Stiftelsen Konung Carl XVI Gustafs 50-årsfond) in June 2000. In April 1997 I was a judge at the Swedish Science and Engineering Fair at Riksmuseum, arranged by Förbundet Unga Forskare.
In 1997 I was asked to join the new board of Svampfrämjandet, a national committee aiming at public information on mushroom knowledge covering nutrition, medicin, systematics, physiology, ecology, cultivation, cooking and picking. My field data from excursions have been filed in the Swedish Mycological Society's data base aiming at inventoring the macromycetes of Sweden. My contribution is approximately 1600 observations in the province of Uppland, i.e. 17% of the total number of records.
I have created web pages covering mushroom links as a service to the Swedish
public:
Newspapers and magazines:
I have also published an illustrated newspaper article about French truffles (Upsala Nya Tidning, Jan 23, 1997) and desert truffles (Upsala Nya Tidning, 1998). Together with my student Niclas Bergius, I had a lot of contacts with Swedish mass media in August 1998 when we had discovered large amounts of Tricholoma matsutake (Goliatmusseron) in Sweden. After presenting our results that Swedish T. nauseosum and Japanese T. matsutake are conspecific (University of Tokyo), Japanese press published the results in October 1999. One illustrated article was published in Asahi News, the world's second biggest news paper.
