JAPANESE PICTURESIn October 1999, Eric Danell and Niclas Bergius travelled to Japan in order to discuss co-operation with Japanese scientists, and to study Japanese matsutake in Pinus densiflora forests. We also presented our DNA-study on matsutake at the Tokyo University. This trip was partly financed by The Swedish Council for Forestry and Agricultural Research (SJFR) and The Swedish Natural Science Research Fund (NFR). We are grateful to our generous hosts: Dr Koji Iwase (Biological Environment Institute, Uji), Dr Akiyoshi Yamada (Ibaraki Prefectural Forestry Center, Ibaraki-ken) and Dr Katsuji Yamanaka (Hokuto Mushroom Research Labaratory, Nagano). Below you can see some impressions from our journey. Heian Shrine, Kyoto![]() Photo: Niclas Bergius An example of the fantastic Japanese architecture. |
